CHAPTER 19

THE ARCHEON’S FOLLY

The sky above the Academy of Sorceres had gone from a putrid soiled green that stretched out miles upon miles to a turbulent midnight black only above the tower itself as the Dream brought back what was once a part to within its fold once more. Whatever power that had fueled the corruption failed in the face of the cosmic truth that made Divinity seem a parlor trick. The Dream was absolute and undeniable. The storms across the world lessened, a lull before the climax. The power expended in it’s conquest to reconstitute reverberated among multiple frequencies of quantum existence. Tir’ Na’Nog itself had felt the thrash of expression as did a thousand upon a thousand worlds. In the memory of the universe and the Dream, what the Archeon had been able to accomplish, if even for only an eye blink in the length of temporal cognizance, would be remembered long into the nocturnal void.

If that and nothing else, he had earned his status as Legend a hundredfold.

The Lord of all the Infernals on Earth, the master and founder of the Academy of Sorceres, and the only Diamond Staged entity existing on the planet, lashed out with a strident bolt of lightning that incinerated another piece of furniture in his lab, deep beneath, in the bowels of the Academy. His midnight black scales shimmered as his wings stretched and his fangs exposed as he howled. Two years of preparation, two years of bloody sacrifice and painstaking ritual inscriptions and it wasn’t enough. The Dream’s power had eventually taken back what he had stolen, at the edge of success, a breath away from finally ripping a hole into Tir’ Na’Nog, one where he and his army could physically enter, and take what was his.

Electricity crawled across his scales, periodically sparking out and hitting more things in his lab till he finally noticed, and snarled, tamping down on his Trick. Luckily he had sent his Magi-Tech assistants out earlier or he was afraid they would be corpses by now. They were an unplenishible resource and so therefore his foresight to send them out, a necessity. Later in the day he would go out and slaughter some low Staged infernals and mongrels. It would satiate some of his fury.

It was his own fault he knew. He should of waited for the catalyst to be delivered. He knew it was the key but once again his lack of patience had been his undoing. He thought his nephew would have been the key but as he had done so many times before, he took a short cut and ended up with a spirit that was not quite strong enough. He merged it with the boy anyway, and attempted the ritual but it hadn’t worked. His Brother had prevented anymore experimentation, and at the time, he was not ready yet to go to war with Ulrik.

So short sighted. It had always been his downfall though at the same time his drive and ambition and never ending sweat equity towards his goals is what had brought him to the pinnacle of humanity.
